When you start browsing the Internet through your Virtual Desktop you might expect the same search results and language as if you were browsing from your physical device, but, unless you wish to log in your Google/Bing/etc account, Internet services don't know where you physically are, your language or your country of origin (this is a good thing for some use cases!).
The only information they have is the IP address of the Virtual Desktop, and they perform geolocation to guess the country and the language, so, for example, if your Virtual Desktop is hosted in Germany you would get search results and ads for that region (Germany) and in German language.
If you wish to get search results for a different country (eg. yours), you need to change the settings of your browser or those of the search engine you are using (eg. Google).
Search settings on Google
- On your Virtual Desktop, open Search settings.
- Scroll to "Region Settings."
- Select a region.
- At the bottom of the page, click Save.
Search setting on Bing
- On your Virtual Desktop, open Search settings.
- Scroll to "Region/Country."
- Select a region or a country.
- At the bottom of the page, click Save.
Search settings on other Search Engines
As you can imagine we can't give step-by-step instruction for all search engines, but they should have a section in their settings to change the region/country.
Other Internet services
Please note that some Internet services and websites may still rely on the IP address of the Virtual Desktop, regardless of the region you may have set, in this case you may want to use a VPN service to change the IP address.
